Abstract:

Meditation practices have been around for over 7000 years and its benefits have been validated by Western medicine over the past 50 years. Yet, a broad utilization of meditation is difficult in Western society due to lack of perceived immediate benefit. Our research focuses on patients with implanted closed loop brain devices that allow for continuing brain activity recordings. Such patients underwent loving kindness meditation at our center with clear and immediate brain changes. Such information may help wider adaptability of this ancient practice by patient/general population to improve their pain and to better deal with past trauma.
